NCAA Lacrosse Preview 2012: Five Things You Need to Know About No. 10 Villanova
Inside Lacrosse is doing a preview of the men's Division 1 lacrosse teams, as the season begins in a couple of weeks. Villanova head coach Michael Corrado knows that the Wildcats are no longer a program under the radar, especially since they are ranked #10 in the preseason rankings.
"It’s definitely a different role for us, starting the season in the top 10, something that’s never been done before. In the past, I’ll admit, maybe we did have a chip on our shoulders, and that’s the way we played, wanting to get the respect of the national lacrosse community. We need to recognize that it’s nice to get the recognition, now we have to go out and prove it by continuing to work hard."

Wright to be Honored at Seventh Annual Dick Vitale Gala in May
On Friday May 18th, 2012, the Seventh Annual Dick Vitale Gala will take place in Sarasota, Florida. At the event, Lou Holtz, Gary Williams, and Jay Wright will be honored for their contributions to the V Foundation for Cancer Research. The CEO of the V Foundation, Nick Valvano, said, "Dick has been a tremendous friend to The V Foundation over the years. I'd like to personally thank Dick and this year's specials guests Lou Holtz, Gary Williams, and Jay Wright for their support of the Foundation. We are looking forward to another exciting gala this year."
"Marquette’s a more experienced team than us, and most of the year that’s what’s killed us. We just have to keep getting better. Keep working hard, keep practicing, keep watching film. It’s frustrating, but as long as we know we’re getting better and the coaches know we’re getting better, that’s all that counts."
Dominic Cheek, after the loss to Marquette
Villanova Football Recruiting: National Signing Day 2012 Commitments, Needs & Targets | SBNation.com
Take a look at this quick write-up I did for Villanova's 2012 football recruiting class for The Mothership.
Naturally, since I wrote this over a week ago, we've had 3 additional commitments since!
Shayne Jones Commits To Villanova Over Central Michigan & Buffalo
Shayne Jones, the No. 185 rated defensive back according to ESPN, has committed to the Villanova Wildcats. The news was announced by Brian Dohn of FoxSportsNet via Twitter. Shayne Jones, who played at Immaculata High School in Somerville, NJ, chose Villanova over Central Michigan and Buffalo, among others.
Shayne Jones had zeroed in on Villanova as National Signing Day approached after also considering Central Michigan, Buffalo, Bryant and Albany.
Shayne Jones was the 185th-highest athlete in the ESPN rankings. Jones joins a Villanova squad that is lacking in defensive backfield depth after losing standout Jimmy Pitts to graduation. Jones' versatility should also allow him to compete for playing time on special teams as both a kick and punt returner.
Final: Villanova-Marquette & The Worst Referee Ever
The Villanova Wildcats lost to the Marquette Golden Eagles today, 82-78. Villanova played well enough to win in the first half, but did not in the second half. They blew an 18-point first half lead. Gross.
But even grosser...?
What you really need to know about this game is that we have a new nominee for worst referee'ing performance of the season. James Breeding, you are a joke. All 3 of the technical fouls he gave (Jay Wright, Buzz Williams, Maalik Wayns) were absolutely terrible calls. Not to mention there were about 60 free throws call in the game and it took 2 and a half hours to complete.
There needs to be consequences for performances like the referees, in particular Breeding, had today.

Weekend noon game at The Pavilion against a good team, I'd live for these as a student. I'd hope the place is rocking today.
Do we have a better shot at beating Marquette today now that we've already seen them once? What say you, 'Nova Nation?
