Final: Villanova Can't Rally Late, Falls To Pitt 79-70
The Villanova Wildcats lost to the Pittsburgh Panthers today despite a slight late game push, falling to the Pittsburgh Panthers by the score of 79-70
If you're a Philadelphia native, this is not a good day (as the New York Rangers beat the Philadelphia Flyers earlier today). If you're a New York native, there's a big one tonight.
More this coming week.

We..
just stink. Plain and simple. Back to back years of finishing in the lower third of the conference.

I’m with the team thru the good and the bad though watching these games of late is putting a strain on my heart. I really like Yarou – I mean I see some of the comments on him running slow etc. but the guy is great on the boards and he works his ass off, they just are not falling for him. Cheek is a guy that I really like but he’s about a year behind in terms of development. I think he is getting better with experience, that’s the only thing this team needs to be great – more experience. JVP is an awesome spark, and he’s developing into a star player, something we clearly need. If you don’t think that this team has desire to get better and to win then you clearly don’t watch the games very closely. Looking forward to the Providence game and to the team improving more.
I don't...
question their desire to get better or win. I question their talent level and I question whether they play to their strengths.

Well
if you watch other big men for example I don’t know that many players that have JVP’s combo of size and skill other than the stacked Syracuse team. Yarou I think is super talented but just not developed yet. Cheek to me is hard to figure out, I mean he misses so many open 3’s takes so many shots where he’s not set or ill advised but then sometimes he just straight up drains a 3 like it was what he’s born to do and you can’t deny his athleticism – he’s had some pretty amazing dunks this season. Wayn’s is amazing – I mean cmon he’s mostly kept us in every game this season, lately the foul trouble has in my eyes been bad reffing. I don’t know I like our chances next year. Oh and let’s not forget about Bell, his three pointers are coming in. I think overall we have talent and now what I really like is we have size to battle on the boards. I think with a little more experience we are in good shape next year!
Overall...
the talent level is poor. JVP is going to be a beast and Wayns has talent. Bell is improving, but still has a long way to go. Cheek wastes his talent. He doesn’t under how to maximize his talents. He’s a great free throw shooter. He had 0 attempts from the line against Pitt. Yarou is a great kid, but he needed to make the leap this year. He hasn’t. He has no feel for the game and can’t finish around the rim. Hilliard played well early but adds nothing now. Ash is the same. Ty Johnson is going to be a solid PG in 2 or 3 years, but he plays afraid.

I think the talent level is good.
JVP, Waynns, Bell and Kennedy have talent. I just think the IQ of this team is horrible. Jay needs to do a better job of instruction. I can’t count the times of early shots in the clock that are just horrible shot selection. The rotation on D is horrible the same.
The coaches are missing on some of these kids for some reason.
So close yet so far
We are losing to some pretty good clubs. We are becoming more competitive but lack the maturity to get the win…notable example: the Marquette game. Even vs. Pitt, down 3 under a minute and our best player has the ball. Did we really need a 3 right then? Would have been heroic if it wen down. What would Foye, Kittles or Reynolds done?

i just dont like using the excuse...
of villanova being inexperienced…i have to admit i used this excuse early this year but look at a team like notre dame; they are even more inexperienced and are playing great ball
G'Town is inexperienced as well...
doesn’t seem to be bothering them. Problem is guys like Yarou and Cheek really needed to be difference makers night in and night out this year. They haven’t and we see the results.
