Selection Sunday: The Brackets Are Released, Villanova Is A 9-Seed Playing George Mason
Bracketologists around the country can take a rest for the next 9 months as the 2011 NCAA Tournament Bracket has been released. The Villanova Wildcats were announced as a 9-seed in the East Region, with their first round opponent being the George Mason Patriots. The game will be played on Friday in Cleveland, Ohio. Times have yet to be announced.
And because we love you so much, we've already got the printable 2011 NCAA bracket ready and waiting for you!
This printable bracket is the best because it also contains a link to all the blogs covering each team so when you begin to start making your bracket picks, you'll have in-depth coverage of all the participating teams to help you take home that NCAA pool you participate in with friends and co-workers.
We'll have more in-depth coverage in the coming days of Villanova's opponent, but for now, we'll leave this as your Open Thread to discuss the implications of this bracket, and how far you think Villanova can go in The Dance.

Bracket is now in post
I prematurely shot my wad, if you will, on what was supposed to be a dry run, and now it looks like I have something of a mess on my hands.

Dickie V showing us some love
“I know George Mason is very good. Very talented, talked about Cam Long everybody, but I’m gonna tell you something – don’t count out Villanova. The reason? Villanova struggled, we all know that. Lost five in a row, last win wan an overtime game over DePaul. But something tells me that Jay Wright’s kids are really, now, gonna play with a little chip on their shoulder. And I think everybody’s gonna basically peg in, right now, and pencil in, George Mason with a win – I’m going with Villanova. I think they can be the sleeper out in the East. I think [they’re] very dangerous, and I think Jay Wright is a coach – tournament time – who gets maximum out of his people.”
just glad we're in....
Dickie V is a schill for the big conferences. We needed a 3 pointer from Zeke just to beat Mason last year. The point is we’re in, just hope we play hard and make a good showing.
Mainline Maddness
For the first time years, I have absolutely no idea what team is going to take the court. It’s time for them to become the hunters instead of the hunted. They certainly have the talent to get through the funk and their situation isn’t too much different than the 1985 team that got blown out of the gym by Pittsburgh to end the season on a down note. The records aren’t all that different. Their seeding isn’t that much different. Their ranking isn’t all that different. (‘85 team wasn’t ranked in the top 20 at the end of the season if I remember correctly.) So get your asses on the court, have fun for crying out loud and if you are having fun playing in the tournament, your will to win will come back to you like finding a lost relative. Don’t concentrate on playing harder…. focus on playing smarter and you’ll surprise yourselves, George Mason, Ohio State and beyond.
one thing about Jay's teams at Nova...
they almost always play hard. They often times do not play smart. Think of all the dumb fouls the team has committed the last few seasons. Even the greatest moment in the Wright era (Reynolds coast-to-coast vs Pitt) was only made necessary by two consecutive dumb plays – the Redding overthrow to Cunningham and then Fisher’s blocking foul at halfcourt (though at least the foul gave us 5 seconds at the end).
We have a lot of talented players, but I dont always trust them to make the smart play.
