NBA Trade: Dante Cunningham To The Charlotte Bobcats
According to multiple reports, former Villanova star Dante Cunningham has been traded to the Charlotte Bobcats as part of a deal that will bring Gerald Wallace to the Portland Trail Blazers.
Charlotte is also receiving big man Joel Przybilla and two 1st-round draft picks as compensation.
Cunningham had been elevating his game lately for Portland, so it appears they are selling-high on the former Wildcat. Dante had been averaging over 20 minutes per game, in which he averaged 6.3 ppg and 4.6 rpg in February.
It's been a crazy few days in the NBA as the trade deadline approaches, and former 'Cat Kyle Lowry summed it up best with this tweet just a little while ago.
wow
Best of luck Dante, we all know you'll continue to kill it!
PEACE PDX THANK U ALL!!!!!!

I like this move for Dante
Charlotte is clearly in rebuilding mode and it will give him a chance to shine on a young team.
Just looking over their roster briefly, I think this is a better situation for him than in Portland.
Obviously he’s going from a decent team to a terrible one, but for a chance to show what you can do on a nightly basis, it’s worth it.
I prematurely shot my wad, if you will, on what was supposed to be a dry run, and now it looks like I have something of a mess on my hands.

congrats
I know the Nova blog headlined this article in this manner because Dante Cunningham is an alum.
However, you thus inadvertently headlined this article accurately, unlike the entire sports media.
The role of Przybilla is as an expiring contract, not as an actual player. Sean Marks is considered the worst player actually on an NBA roster so he clearly has little to do with the essence of the trade.
The core of this deal is a trade of Gerald Wallace for Dante Cunningham. Because Charlotte feels it must shed salary for business reasons, the Bobcats are playing a top-tier NBA player for a younger one who also plays forward and has shown some signs of talent but is at a very early stage of his professional career so is still largely an unknown in terms of how far he can go.
As a Blazer fan, I am really pleased with Dante’s progress, although I am also very pleased with this deal since it brings a top-notch seasoned veteran to the Trailblazers.
Having essentially never heard of Villanova before (except seeing their name on scoreboards), I became a Villanova fan on account of Dante Cunningham doing a fine job playing on my home team the Portland Trailblazers.
I expect he is going to have a good pro career and I will be rooting for his success as a Bobcat.
Thanks for the kind words....
The 2 first rounders has something to do with the trade too…
Dante is one of the hardest workers I’ve ever seen. He’s the perfect role player for any contending team. I was REALLY hoping he’d land on the Knicks to bolster their front line.

Dante
I really miss that guy…loved watching him develop from a VERY raw freshman to a senior leader on a final 4 squad to a productive NBA player. his absence has been very noticeable since he graduated.
Yeah, each season since he left...
has made me realize more and more what a stable presence he was.
