'Nova Football Picked To Finish 1st In CAA

Today, the Villanova Football team was voted to finish 1st in the CAA for the 2010 season. CAA Media Day is today at M&T Stadium in Baltimore, MD and the 'Cats were a runaway favorite to take home the conference crown. Here is how the votes came out (1st place votes in parentheses):

1. VILLANOVA (17)
2. William & Mary
3. New Hampshire (2)
4. JMU
5. Delaware (1)
6. Richmond
7. Maine
8. Massachusetts
9. Rhode Island
10. Towson

In addition to the team accolade, several Villanova players were honored individually. Matt Szczur was voted the Pre-Season CAA Offensive Player of the Year after winning it in 2009 (along with the Special Teams Player of the Year).

Terence Thomas was voted the Pre-Season CAA Defensive Player of the Year after leading the team with 116 tackles in 2009.

In addition to Szczur and Thomas, QB Chris Whitney, OL Ben Ijalana and Brant Clouser, and K Nick Yako were all named to the Pre-Season All-CAA Team!
