The Open Thread: The Dance - Day 1

Here is your Open Thread for the first day of The NCAA Tournament. Good God I'm excited. Like a 5-year old on his way to Disney World. Or on speed.

Either way, we'll be chatting here all day about not just Villanova-Robert Morris (which tips off at 12:30 p.m. ET - if you didn't know that, just quit), but all the day's action. The most exciting part for me is going to be when somebody loses their first Sweet Sixteen team. That should be high comedy.

Also, make sure you click here for full ecstasy. This will allow those of you who aren't in front of the TV to still enjoy the best day of the year! And just so you know, The March Madness widget is located on the right-hand side for future use. Thank me (actually the SB Nation guys) later.

Let's Go Nova!

You been snorting coke with the Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington?

hahahhahaha!

Day after Saint Patrick’s Day. Let’s just say I’m not all there right now.

My father was a military man. Guess I wasn't such a 'good soldier.' Anyways, when I was 35 he attempted to give me a crew-cut while I was asleep. I woke up, broke his arm, haven't seen him since.

Scottie and Fisher NOT STARTING

per a bunch of sources. Jay saying it is a ‘teaching moment’

I like it. Light a fire under their asses.

Question

What do you think Scottie did to get benched? Kid comes late to games just to go to church, he does no wrong!

Leadership not good lately outta him.

Reynolds Not Starting in Round 1

This just in: Villanova’s Scottie Reynolds will not start against Robert Morris in what Coach Jay Wright is calling a “teaching moment”.

This has been embarrassing thus far.

RMU is winning 48-45

And we look atrocious.

I just hope the players are not trying to somehow give Jay Wright a “teaching moment”.

What was Reggie Redding thinking?

Holy crap.....

this team is just awful right now. I’d love to give credit to Bob Morris, but they were just taking advantage of horrible play by Nova. Richmond/St. Mary’s has to be licking their lips right now.

If i want to be optimistic though – Arkansas barely beat Texas Southern in the first round in ’95, then went all the way to the championship game.

by vgirardi on Mar 18, 2010 3:19 PM EDT reply actions

Holy crap indeed

What a game. Congrats from a Louisville fan, Nova. With ND losing, we needed you to carry the BE banner for the afternoon.

If the Wildcats had lost this game, who would have been the goat? Redding? Wright? No matter. You’ve had your wake-up call. Rise and shine!

by rickmbari on Mar 18, 2010 3:23 PM EDT reply actions

Wake Up Call?

Hasnt this team had 5 wake up calls in the last 7 games?

I wish i could be more optimistic, but holy crap this team looks lifeless.

by vgirardi on Mar 18, 2010 3:28 PM EDT up reply actions

Ugh...

that was a train wreck. Has Jay lost this team? We almost lost a game in which we didn’t get killed on the boards, or by free throws or a plethra of turnovers?

Never mistake effort for achievement.

I'll take it!

on a day where Scottie goes 3-23, Fisher only scores 6 and Nova still pulls it out it is a good sign. Those shots will fall.

You better be right

Richmond and St. Mary’s are both really good teams.

Hoping

They take similar path as last year. They struggled in first game and got hotter with each better team. But…the realist in me sees the youth in this team. They are playing dumb basketball and have been for weeks. They weren’t doing the same last year.

is starting to really scare the crap out of me. Them and Baylor are shaping up to be our toughest competition.

That game made me sick

And on top of it, I had to take shit all game from all the stupid Pitt and Temple fans with whom I work.

Thanks for pulling it out, Nova, but you had better come to play next game.

Now, were are my Tums?

Armwood?

What happened to Isaiah Armwood? He hasn’t gotten any PT the last few games. He hurt or sleep with Jay’s wife?

Now that I've had a few seconds to breath....

I have to tip my hat off to Robert Morris. They hung in there through and through and you could visibly tell they were gaining confidence as the game went on. The way they were able to hang around in OT once they had 3 players fouled out was incredibly. Nova had more than their share of sloppy moments, but Robert Morris took advantage of them, especially as the game went on.
