TCU To Join The BIG EAST in 2012
UPDATE: It's Official - and you can watch the press conference live.
Sources have told The New York Daily News that the TCU Horned Frogs have accepted an invitation from the BIG EAST to become an all-sports member. Fanhouse is reporting their start date will be July 1, 2012.
The Daily News has been told that Commissioner John Marinatto and Associate Commissioner in charge of communications John Paquette both flew to Dallas yesterday for an official announcement at 1 p.m. today. TCU would become the 9th football member and 17th member overall.
This line though, says it all in terms of Villanova.
Frankly, I'm embarrassed for my school.
...I think this really puts the pressure on Villanova to accept (or decline - but don't do that)...the chips are starting to fall and we probably do not have until the spring to decide at this point...
...Stay tuned!...

we need to accept, and soon
we are setting ourselves up to be screwed.
My father was a military man. Guess I wasn't such a 'good soldier.' Anyways, when I was 35 he attempted to give me a crew-cut while I was asleep. I woke up, broke his arm, haven't seen him since.
Excited!
I knew I was ahead of the curve by moving to TX, now I will be able to see Nova live when they kick TCU butt in basketball…maybe even in football in a couple of years.
Heat is on!
Our beloved Dancin’ Pres. to make this decision soon. The Villanova board meets in Dec. 2010 and at the very least the status of the FBS move due diligence needs to be on the agenda. If that occurs, undoubtedly there will be leaks from the discussions at that meeting. It seems the Pres and University academics do not want to spend the $ on the FBS move. To convince the Pres to make this happen, VU BB/FB fan alumni (particularly those with large checkbooks) need to make their desires for FBS move known to the Pres (nothing say "I love FBS FB like a big check). If alumni want this to happen, whether well-moneyed or not, they must be very loud in their support of this as that will get the Pres’s ear. Its either that or prepare yourself for Villanova BB in the Pope John Paul II Conference with the BE and A10 Catholic schools by 2015 (and don’t worry you’ll be able to catch the Villanova-St. Bonaventure game on MyPHL17 on tape delay Weds. night at 1 a.m.).

Can't wait...
until Nova is playing home football games at a soccer stadium in Chester in front of 2,000 people.
/sarcasm
I understand why we have to move to FBS football, but I don’t like it.

At this point, it's not about that
We HAVE to – the future of our athletics depends on it. If we don’t accept, Temple will, and realistically we could get kicked out of the BIG EAST as we no longer solely provide the Philly market.

Tomorrow's Inquirer
Look for a long article about how faculty at NOVA are 100% against FBS upgrade and that Jay Wright is for it. It time to start sending those emails to the AD and Pres. “We support football upgrade”. In fact, if they offered, I bet people would put deposits on 2011 FB tickets now to get season tickets up from 7,500/game to 12,000/game.
Yes, the stadium issue is a problem but not insoluble. Faculty/students want it on campus as its easiest to get people to go but the Township and residents will resist any expansion. Also, the University does not want to spend the money or publicity costs to fight for it.
Its ashame though as if you check out an aerial of the stadium on GoogleMaps, you’ll see E and W stands could easily be added to add 5,000-8,000 seats. There are also ample options to add structured parking in the vast parking fields on the S side of Lanc Ave (say 2 3-story parking garages (again Twp will never allow) accompanied by road upgrade for Ithan (making it 4 lanes N and S from campus borders to Lanc Ave and Lanc Ave-Ithan upgrades for turn lanes and traffic flow (and god forbid pedestrian tunnels) to handle game day traffic and pedestrian traffic – frankly most of that is needed anyway). Plus they could demo the Field House for the new FB training center and develop the field across the street for practice fields (issue is finding a new site for an Olympic track but West campus has open land). Of course, I just spent $25-30MM that they don’t want to spend, oh well.
Chris...
I understand the why and if it has to be done to “save” the athletic department long term, then so be it. We will struggle to support a FBS football team. As a small private school, it will be tough. The U, a small private school, has won 5 national championships and they struggle with attendance. It’s a lot more likely that we end up like Baylor or Vandy than USC or Notre Dame.

The U
They struggle with attendance because they play in a 90,000 seat NFL season.
We won’t be them – we have a passionate fanbase. Boston College would be a more realistic target rather than USC or Notre Dame.

NFL stadium, not season obviously.

The U's stadium...
is also 20 miles from campus. Sound familiar? Isn’t BC’s stadium on campus?
The U plays in a 70,000 seat stadium. They are lucky to get 20,000.
We might have a passionate fanbase. Might. It is really, really small though. That will hurt us, like it does, BC when, in the future, Nova is good enough for bowl consideration.

Nobody expects us to fill out a 25K stadium in the first season
Progress is the important thing…if we announce we’re moving, I know hundreds of my friends (‘09 grads) who would buy season tickets immediately. I’m sure your friends would as well.
My main reason for not going now is that we’re FCS. That’s it. If we’re an FBS school, I’m going to every home game unless I have a prior commitment.

I admire your optimism....
I hope it works out for Nova. I’ll go to more football games if they are FBS, but would rather it be on campus than in Chester. Basketball tickets will soon be available if you only buy football tickets too. That will be interesting.
